When Rocket gets hurt in a fight and normal medical procedures can’t do anything it’s up to the rest of the Guardians — his friends — to get him help before it’s too late.
The third and final Guardians of the Galaxy film has a more individual and community feel to it. Yes, they end up saving the world, but that‘s a bonus. Their first and only objective is to save their best friend.
Although the movie hits the ground running — literally the first thing that happens is the fight in which a new character called The Warlock, played by Will Poulter, shows up and Rocket gets hurt — it slows down a bit, taking time to explore Rocket’s life before his time with the Guardians.
To say that his story is sad might be a bit of an understatement. Rocket started life as an experiment of a man called the High Evolutionary. Although the High Evolutionary’s goal is to perfect nature and create a utopia, his methods of doing so are anything but ethical. Who knew Marvel movies could make people cry? Well, they can, and now they do.
Chris Pratt also drops Marvel’s first-ever F-bomb, and although it is notable for being the first, it seems ordinary, considering the circumstances of the entire movie.
Even though this movie doesn’t shy away from getting all up in an audience’s feelings, it’s still entertaining, with lots of laughter and action throughout.
There are two extra credit scenes, so make sure to stick around for those.
